Cooking Tip ~ Deflame Raw Onions

Here's a neat little trick I just recently learned about raw onions. If you like adding raw diced onions to dishes like egg salad, guacamole, and tuna salad but don't relish the harshness of some onions, just deflame them!

Dice your onion however fine you wish and then let them sit in a warm water bath for approximately 3-5 minutes. Strain the water out with a fine mesh strainer, then add to your dish.

The water should not be any hotter than water from your tap (you don't want to cook the onions!)

We grew loofah for the first time this year! It was a pretty cool experience although it does take some patience. They are a super slow growing member of the squash family, although pretty darn hardy as long as you keep them watered.

How to Recycle An Old T-Shirt Into A New Dog Toy

Materials Needed:
Three old t-shirts (Be sure you don't want to wear them anymore, as you will be cutting them up!)
Pair of sharp scissors

Directions:
STEP 1: Cut your t-shirts into 3 long strips. This is where you can customize the size of the finished toy. Our pictured toy was created for a medium sized dog using strips approximately 2 inches wide x 15 inches long.

STEP 2: Gather the pieces together & tie a knot, very tightly, at one end leaving approximately 1 1/2" of material overhang.

2 pinches sugar

6 tsp. lemon juice

1 Tbs. vinegar

Directions:

1) Crack the eggs into the jar. Add dry mustard, salt, sugar, lemon juice, and vinegar. Pour oil into jar. Let this combination sit long enough for the eggs to settle down and rest on the bottom of the jar completely underneath the oil.
